Understanding Advocacy

This one day course will act as an introduction for those wanting to find out what advocacy is, including different models of practice, the role of the advocate and reasons why this support is needed.

The day will explore issues relating to:

  • Basic principles of advocacy practice
  • Power structures/empowerment
  • Vulnerable and marginalised people (social model on disability)
  • Understanding of rights
  • Statutory requirements
  • Case study evidence

The venue is fully accessible and lunch and refreshments are provided.

The course will take place at John Haswell House, 8 / 9 Gladstone Terrace, Gateshead, NE8 4DY. Alternatively training can be provided in-house if required.  Please contact GAIN if you are interested in attending this course. Training days will be arranged depending upon numbers and demand.
